Amore's I Spy the Moon

"Hubble"

I needed another male like a fish needs a bicycle, and yet here we are! …again. LOL

Hubble was never meant to stay, but he sure has all the beauty and grace that I never knew I needed. Hubble is one of the most handsome dogs I have seen, but definitely I think hes the prettiest dog I have bred, to date. Hes got a very determined and my way or the highway kind of personality, but he makes up for it with sweetness and love when it comes to late night cuddles and snuggling. He is a very very sweet dog, with lots of energy and is also one of the smartest basenjis I have ever met as well. I do think that is likely to the DHA I fed both his mother and him while he was growing up. Studies have shown that dogs who have 500mg of DHA (and their mothers also having it while they are pregnant and nursing) are 68% smarter than those who are not supplemented with DHA. I do find this to be true, in my personal experience- So I believe the science to be accurate.

I bred Hubble’s mother to my boy, Oster, and they did not disappoint me. Well, apart from blessing me with a litter of 6 males. ALLL I wanted was one female, but unfortunately it was not in the cards. I didnt plan to keep anymore males (I have 4 at home, including him) So I really REALLY didnt need a male. But Goly, is he handsome. His color is unique and I dont know what to call it. His Embark DNA says he is brindle or black. His physical coat pattern is black but he has hints of red in it. I will not say he is brindle for sure, but i lean that direction. His face also has lightened and changed in color since he was a puppy. Well, his whole body has! At 11 months, he started to darken to black again, with still brindle looking colorations within his coat. Ive never seen anything like it, in the 25+ years Ive been in Basenjis. Not many others are able to explain it as well. So it will be fun to see how he matures and how his color adjusts as he ages. I do plan to someday do the brindle test that supposedly tests for it, but I am not certain its true. Its a non USA test so we will see!

Hubble’s structure, color aside, is gorgeous. He truly took on all the best aspects of his mother and father and they produced exactly what I had hoped for with him. He has beautiful reach and drive. His topline has little up and down movement and he has all forward motion, which is desired. His head is beautifully shaped with gorgeous SMALL hooded ears, great proportions, looooots of wrinkles – especially for a dark colored Basenji, and the “bone” and “substance” makes his head an ideal head, IMO. He has a head I desire. Sure there are areas I would love to improve, but considering both his parents heads are average, he really won the head lottery!

His body is square and he comes to an even 4 square stack every time he stops. Its such a beautiful sight. He has a level backline and a smooth topline. His tailset is high and he has a beautiful close to double curl. Hes young, so I hope his chest will drop as he ages but even for his age, his chest is very nice. He has beautiful angulation in the front and rear, a beautiful double thigh, and a gorgeous long neck.  I am excited to see how he matures to 2 and hopeful that he will pass all of his health tests and carry on the Amore name through future generations to come.
