Puppies

Here you will find our available puppies and future planned litters. Typically we have a long or full waiting list prior to any breeding, however please feel free to contact us and we can put you on the waiting list for future litters. We also occasionally have a home that does not work out, in which case, we might have a puppy available.

Our Available Puppies

We don't have any puppies available at this time.

If you are interested in getting on our waiting list or are interested in a puppy, we do require the completion of the following form for any consideration of a puppy:

                                         PUPPY PLACEMENT FORM

Where it started..

Missy, the one that started it all!

[pods name="dawg" template="Dog Info Box" id="missy"]

With every responsible breeder, (who cares about their puppies and their new buyers) come contracts. We use these for our records and to protect both, You as the Buyers, and Us as the Breeders. A copy of these documents will be sent home along with your new little Basenji Puppy. To find out more about what your puppy will come with, Click Here

Deposit Contract. We have a Deposit Contract which helps ensure both Buyer and Breeder’s safety. As a Breeder, we get many different inquiries about our puppies. To ensure we have serious inquiries, we do require a deposit.  For only puppies who ARE born, we accept deposits on as many puppies as we have in the litter, deposits are in the amount of $500.00. This shows how much of a deposit is placed, what color and gender you are looking for, and some general rules on purchasing an Amore Basenji. The deposit will go towards the purchase price of your puppy. This deposit is NON REFUNDABLE and failure to complete purchase loses deposit

Puppy Purchase Agreement. We have a Purchase Agreement for all puppy buyers. This is to be completed before any puppies leave our residence. This helps us determine which quality puppy you are interested in (Pet or Show) (Breeding or Spay/Neuter) and gives you, as the buyer, an Idea of what is expected from you and what is expected from us. It also helps us keep your contact information, etc safe within our records, should we need to contact you before or after the puppy leaves our home.

Health Warranty. We offer a Lifetime Health Warranty against Fanconi for all of our puppies.  In addition, we offer a 5 year Health warranty against Blinding eye diseases, Crippling Hip Dysplasia, and against the gene tested PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) affliction.  Before breeding, WE DO health test all of OUR personal breeding stock to ensure healthier, happier puppies. Mothers have been Fanconi, Thyroid, Hip X-ray, CAER/CERF, and PRA tested. Males will preferably have all (or some degree) of these tests.

We do offer Show and Pet Quality puppies.

SHOW QUALITY: Show quality puppies are available to APPROVED responsible owners and breeders who have intentions of showing this puppy in conformation (agility, lure coursing, etc) and possibly breeding in the future. We do sell to new time breeders who are just starting out and to those who have been breeding for years and years to come. With Show quality puppies we have (the above mentioned contracts) along with the following Contracts:

-Show Contract MALE or Show Contract FEMALE

                  -Co Ownership Contract

                  -Others may apply

PET QUALITY: Pet quality puppies are available to those who have no intentions of breeding or showing. For those who just want a pet to do daily activities with, share their everyday lives with, and just to have a family companion to love and cherish as apart of the family until they pass on from this life. If your looking for a best friend to help fulfill life’s difficult times with no intentions of puppies, This quality is for you. Pet quality puppies (in addition to the above mentioned contracts) have the following contracts:

                   -Pet Contract

                   -Spay and Neuter Contract

                   –Others may apply

We reserve the right to choose OUR FIRST PICK PUPPY, before anyone else –As that is our whole intentions of breeding– to pick a puppy for our showing and future breeding program.

Any deposit placed on a puppy will guarantee you ONE puppy from said litter, however said puppy will not be known until the puppies reach 8 weeks of age.

This is due to conformation and temperament testings which are done at 7-8 weeks old. Please understand puppies are not chosen until they have undergone these evaluations and are characterized as pet or show quality.

After we take our pick, we will go through the “Puppy Placement Forms” which are filled out by potential Buyers. We find which homes best suit the personality of the puppies that we currently have. (Just because you dont get a puppy from a current litter, does not mean you are not suited for an Amore Puppy, it just means that there were better suitors for the puppies that were curently on the ground.) We do our best to place our puppies in homes that will best compliment them and we do this because we want you, as the Buyer, to be happy with your new puppy, and we want our puppies to find their permanent homes the first time. By placing a deposit, you understand that you are guaranteed ONE puppy for the deposit, however the particular puppy you are guaranteed, will not be known until around 7 or 8 weeks of age, after the evaluation stages have been performed.

Please understand we know our puppies and their personalities best and we want our puppies to go to homes where they–and their owners–will be happy and live for a lifetime. So although we will TRY to get the puppy you originally wanted, NO GUARANTEES CAN BE MADE. If a different puppy fits your lifestyle and your family better than the puppy you chose, we hope that you will understand and trust in us, as Breeders, to place the right puppy with you. We just want what is best for our puppies.

As an Buyer of an Amore Basenjis, please understand that we truly and deeply care about our puppies, more than most truly will every understand. As stated in our contract, we do “require” updates in the form of photos and updates on how the puppy is doing. This means more to us than anything, to know they are safe and to be able to stay apart of their lives until they depart this life. If you do not wish to keep in contact or send us photos/updates, please do not purchase one of our puppies as this is non negotiable. We love our puppies far to much to not be able to know how they are and to not be able to watch them grow in their new family’s homes.

We send out Birthday Announcements which include an updated photo (of each puppy born in your puppy’s litter) and it is sent to every owner in the litter. To see how the “family” is growing. This is fun to see how big and grown up they are. This is done on their first birthday (So please be prepared to send a yearly photo for the collage of your new best friend) and, although it may not be every year, we try to do this on occasion after the first year. This is why its important that we get updates of one year photos at least, however more is always better. We are always so excited to open our email and see updates from our past puppy litters!

We hope that you have had a connection with us, as a breeder, and would WANT to stay in our lives and want us to stay in you and your puppy’s life.

Please understand that we will not willingly sell a puppy to a buyer who just wants a dog and not a family member. We dont want to sell to someone who feels we are not worthy enough to experience a photo now and then. These are not just dogs, they are our family and will forever be our family, even when they leave us, until they pass away.

Shipping and Transportation is at the Buyer’s expense. We do not pay for any type of shipping for our puppies.

Please understand that we require ALL puppies and adults to be picked up in person, we do not allow air flights (unless you travel in cabin with the puppy) and we do not allow cargo shipments or ground transport (unless it is the Breeder and Buyer meeting)

We will happily deliver our puppies, personally, via in cabin air travel. This is at the buyer’s expense but we gladly offer this option so that the Buyer doesnt have to fly if they cannot for some reason. You simply buy a ticket for Us (Normally Whitney) and we will personally deliver your puppy, in hand, at the airport. You are welcome to purchase a flight and come to us yourself also!

We accept the following:
In Cabin Shipping *Recommended*
In Person Pick up *Recommended*

Meeting at a mutually agreed upon location *Recommended*

Ground Transport *NOT accepted*

In Cargo shipping *NOT accepted*

MUST BE IN PERSON PICK UP ONLY

Puppy Aptitude Testing (PAT)

We currently have decided to start testing our puppies using this method and test, offered by Volhard.  In order for this to be successful (and to know how accurate these results are) we are asking you, our puppy buyers, to participate in the PAT. Heres how you participate.  We will keep records of all of our puppies. As the puppies age (or once they reach adulthood, we will use 2 years as the basis of adulthood, we will send you a questionnaire. This questionnaire will be about your puppy and their behavior/personality/etc. We need this filled out and returned. Once we have -at least- a few years gathered, we will determine if the test is accurate or not. But we cannot do this without your help.) If you are willing to help us determine temperaments and the future temperaments of our puppies and adults, please mark “YES” on the question above. you will receive an email around their second birthday with the questionnaire. Please fill it out as best you can and send it back. Please do not alter or lie on the form. We will not judge your dog, we will not take actions, etc. We specifically want to know if this test works well on the BASENJI breed. (its been said that it only works on certain breeds. So I’d like to see just how accurate it is. Your help is appreciated!

Important Terms and Definitions

The following words can be found all over our website. To help the process of term understanding, we have provided a definition of the word, as it is to us, for you below:
PET QUALITY -Pet Quality is a term used for non breeding/non showing dogs. This term that is used to describe a certain dog and be it know that being pet quality makes it no less of a dog than a show quality, as far as having a happy go lucky dog as a companion, a member of the family. THE REASON we separate puppies into choices as far as Pet and Show quality is because to the average dog owner/buyer, certain qualities (such as too much white, a crooked blaze, etc) would not matter but because to a dog going on to show and potentially breed, these things do not help the dog excel in the show ring, so that puppy is deemed “pet” quality because it would not likely do well in the show ring due to lack of qualities that are expressed in what is called the Breed Standard.  EVERY breed has a Breed Standard and it is this piece of information that all Breeders use to breed and improve their puppies so that they can become the Standard of the breed. If they fall under this (from the most simplest reason of simply to much white on the muzzle to a more complex reason such as their gait is not as “Easy” as a littermate’s gait.) There are MANY factors that play a part in how a puppy “classes” in the Pet or Show, but, be assured that both, as family pets, are equally important and loved.
SHOW QUALITY – Show Quality just means that this puppy has an excellent chance at excelling in the show ring and we would like to place it in a home where the owners have high intentions of showing it. It is no better or worse than a pet quality puppy, it is just more likely –as previously discussed via the Breed Standard–that this puppy will do better in a show home. So we group them according to these terms so that this puppy will be given the chance to excel in a show home instead of being neutered or spayed (which altered animals are not allowed to participate in shows because the point of a show is to prove they are worthy of breeding and altered pets cannot breed.)  🙂
Temperament Evaluation –  At 49 days (7 weeks), we temperament test all puppies. This consists of 10 categories in which each puppy will be scored on. A copy of this result is available at the Buyer’s request if they are interested in learning more about it. We do hope that you will participate in our Temperament Evaluation Retest–which basically is just you filling out a questionnaire about your dog in the future (probably twice, depending. Around age 1 or 2 years and then again at around 4 or 5 years.) This helps us learn how accurate the temperament testing is and can help us improve future puppy placements so that we can produce healthy and happy puppies that buyers can enjoy for years to come.  We do this in order to match your family with thbest puppbased on your lifestyle and the  information you provide to us below.
Conformation Evaluation –  We perform conformation evaluations to see where a dog is structurally. Show and Pet quality are divided when we perform this (normally 8 weeks)  We look at structure, movement, standing, color, and compare the puppy to the Breed Standard. Puppies who closely resemble the breed standard will then become Show Quality and those who don’t quite compare to the standard will then become Pet Quality. Again, all puppies are created equal as far as a companion animal, but some just would do better in show homes going to shows and potentially moving on to becoming Best In Show winners. With this said, please understand  that we will NOT know which puppy will be yours to take home until this  evaluation has been performed, so please keep that in mind when placing a holding fee/deposit.  Please understand that we have this policy because we know our puppies best (having raised them) and have spent countless amounts of hours with the puppies, we have a much better understanding of their true personalities. We have found that in the past, families come on the day of pick up and choose a puppy based on the puppy’s disposition on that one day. There are many factors affecting the personality and energy level of each puppy on any given day and it is necessary to view the personality and traits of each puppy over an extended period of time. Please be advised that in some cases there may be more than one puppy that we feel would be a good fit for your family. In this case, you would be able to choose between the puppies that we have selected for you.
Holding Fee – A holding fee is a designated amount of money that you put down to hold a puppy in this litter. The holding fee is to guarantee you one puppy within the litter, however the particular puppy, as described above, is not known until 8 weeks of age. Please note that your holding fee is NON REFUNDABLE, and, while your holding fee is transferable (to the next years litter (ONLY if one is planned)), if you decide for any reason after the puppies are 6 weeks old that you will not be taking a puppy from this litter, we reserve the right to deduct a readvertisement fee of 50% of your deposit (because once all puppies are spoken for, we stop accepting applications and interested buyers.) This is to cover the additional advertising, food, and vet expenses as well as other miscellaneous expenses. In most cases all of our puppies are spoken for well before the time they are to go home and we have to turn prospective families away.
Puppy Culture Program – Puppy Culture Program is a program developed by a Breeder of Bull Terriers to improve the lives of puppies and to help ensure they become well balanced adult dogs with less fear and more learning and training ability. We now use this program (2015/2106) to raise our puppies and it has made a drastic effect on our puppies vs the old method not involved with Puppy Culture. Please click here to find out more about Puppy Culture Program and/or to buy it yourself! We do recommend this go home with any dog, not just our Basenjis, but we strongly feel it is a great option and a great tool to provide a great start to any puppy and a great way to incorporate this into older dogs, even if they missed the vital stage as a puppy (the first 12 (twelve) weeks)
Full Registration –  Full registration is given to only Show quality puppies. Full registration means that all offspring produced by this dog or bitch will be Registerable with AKC.  When we do the conformation evaluations (as shown above) we place them in their adjoining category. We do that because we want to ensure that we are bettering the breed, not just breeding to produce puppies. So by choosing ONLY Show quality puppies to reproduce (by giving only them Full registration) and having pet quality puppies (who lack somewhere in the standard)spayed, we are doing our part in limiting the non desired genes (such as long bodies) and improving the desired genes (such as the square-tall on the leg appearance.) We CO OWN ALL of our show prospect puppies.
Limited Registration – Limited Registration is only given to Pet quality puppies.  Limited registration means that NO offspring produced by this dog or bitch will be able to be registerable with AKC. This is because they are being sold as pet quality and are not meant to reproduce. This means that if you purchase a “Pet” quality puppy and have a litter (accidental or intentional) the litter will NOT be able to be registered with AKC leaving all pupies in the litter not registered. This is because we sell pet quality puppies to spay and neuter homes because the reason they are pet quality is that during the evaluation period, they, for what ever reason,  had non desired traits that are found to be faults in the Breed Standard. We place Pet as pet quality and Show as show quality puppies because we do not believe in breeding just for breeding but to only breed for bettering the breed. By just breeding to breed, we are ruining our breed and that is not our goal, so that is one of the main reason as to why we place certain puppies in certain homes.

Amore Basenjis is dedicated to producing healthy, happy puppies. With that to be possible, its very important health testing is carried out. We health test all of our at home breeding stock (bitches and studs) and when we sell a Show Quality puppy, we also require the new puppy be CHIC CERTIFIED and FULLY health tested before any breeding takes place.

As the new owner, it is your responsibility to get health testing for our common HEALTH PROBLEMS. Please do your research before purchasing a puppy. Although Basenjis are a mostly healthy breed, like all breeds, they do have health issues that, mostly all, can be avoided by simply testing. As a responsible breeder (and responsible owner) you should health test your puppy for the betterment of the breed. (and to help breeders like myself improve on lines and health by getting pet quality puppies health tested also.)

As a pet quality puppy, the only required tests are Fanconi and PRA. However we do encourage all puppy owners have their puppy completely tested for FANCONI,HIPSEYES & PRA, and THYROID. This helps us to continue our side of breeding and by learning what health results were produced on our puppies, we can better learn inheritance and our lines and continue to surpass our future buyer’s expectations. We do not require the health testing, however we do appreciate and have sincere gratitude for those who can and do perform the health tests on their own for our pet quality puppies.

As a show quality puppy, it is a requirement for ALL of these tests to be carried out and completed before any breeding:

PRA and EYES need to be CAER’d annually,

THYROID needs to be tested at least once, preferrably twice, after the age of two.

HIPS need to be OFA certified after the age of 2

FANCONI needs to be performed at any age (Normally, all puppies are tested before they leave our home)

Failure to do any of these tests may result in AKC paperwork being withheld on all puppies (making them not registerable through AKC–we wont sign off on paperwork unless all health tests have been performed) and/or a violation in the contract could mandate a hefty fine.
